Before any of it

Two mice, and a forest that was only a forest.

Tyro and Sylvie live at the edge of Whisperwood. Nothing about that afternoon is dangerous yet.

The Gladeblight

Then the wood turns.

A plague moves through Whisperwood and twists it. You go in as Tyro, one field mouse with a blade, to find the thing that did this.

The sanity system

The forest reads how much of you is left.

Tyro carries two meters. Health is his body. Sanity is his hold on what is real. Damage takes from both, so a fight you win badly still costs you the ground you walk on.

Health
Sanity
Stable
80 to 100
You see the forest as it is. Clear ground, honest distances, decisions you can trust.
Unsettled
50 to 79
Small things move when you are not looking at them. The sound is a little wrong.
Fractured
25 to 49
Hallucinations arrive and the ground glitches. You cannot fully believe what you are stepping on.
Broken
1 to 24
Time warps. The line between the room you are in and the one you are imagining stops holding.
Madness
0
Reality gives out. The world turns unpredictable, which is the hardest place to be and the only place some doors open.

Dying is a state, not a screen

When health hits zero Tyro does not die. He slips into a Fugue State and wakes at the last Safe Haven he found, with sanity restored.

  • No game over, so the story never breaks.
  • Finding a Safe Haven is the reward for looking around.
  • No lasting penalty. The Fugue is about continuity, not punishment.

Low sanity opens doors

A cracked mind is not only a cost. Parts of Whisperwood are built for it.

  • Phantom paths. Platforms and passages that only exist below a threshold.
  • Sanity-gated content. Bosses, scenes and story branches tied to your state.
  • Abilities with conditions. Some power only answers a particular mind.

TYRO
Legend of Whisperwood
Souls-like Metroidvania

Methodical combat, a forest that tells its own story without stopping to explain it, and endings that depend on how much of Tyro's mind is still his.

Where it stands

Tyro is back in development.

We went quiet on this one for a while, and players deserved better than that. The demo didn't feel the way it should have, so we're rebuilding it around the feedback. The goal is a new demo by the end of the year.

The full story is on the devlog, and the work will show up there as it happens. A wishlist still costs you nothing, and it is how Steam tells you the moment the new demo lands.

Double opt-in, unsubscribe any time, and the devlog shows the work either way.
